VPN clients and protocols, explained plainly

The key is text. These are the apps that turn it into a connection, and the protocols they speak.

The key is a line of text. Valideo does not publish an app. The key starts with vless:// and goes into a free client made by an independent open source project. Most of these VPN clients grew out of V2Ray and Xray, and all of them read the same link, so the choice is mostly about taste. Underneath sits the protocol. Older VPN protocols such as OpenVPN and WireGuard have a recognisable shape that filters can match. VLESS over Reality looks like a normal HTTPS visit to a well known site. The guides below cover each client and the trade-offs between protocols.

Q&A about clients

Q.Which client should I start with?

A.Hiddify on any platform. Later, v2rayN on Windows and v2rayNG on Android give you more control.

Q.Are these clients safe?

A.Every client named here publishes its source, so anyone can read what it does. The real risk is a fake copy. Stick to the App Store, Google Play or the developer's GitHub releases.

Q.Can I paste the key into the official WireGuard or OpenVPN apps?

A.That will not work. Each of them understands only its own format, and a vless:// link is a different language.

Q.Why VLESS and not WireGuard?

A.WireGuard is fast but easy to recognise and block. VLESS over Reality is built to pass networks that filter VPN traffic.

Q.Do I need to understand protocols?

A.No. Importing the key sets everything. These pages are for the curious.

Q.Is a paid client better than a free one?

A.Not for our key. Shadowrocket on iPhone is a popular paid app, and the free ones read the same key.
